The Forbidden City in Beijing had served as the center of China’s politics and power for half a millennium, lasting from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty through the 15th century to the early 1900s. Covering a whopping 72 hectares with 980 buildings and over 8,000 rooms, it is the grandest of its kind.
